Wired: NBC’s Steve Kornacki says he is not a meme person

NBC election analyst Steve Kornacki says he is not a meme person, according to Wired today. Kornacki’s on air number crunching turned him into a breakout figure of recent election nights, with his khakis and big board spawning endless memes. His stance underscores the gap between viral internet fame and the media figures at the center of another high stakes campaign season.

In a new profile, Wired reports Kornacki also admits he is not quite sure what a subreddit is and largely ignores posts about himself. He frames that distance as focus on data and live coverage rather than online culture, the magazine writes. Watch for how NBC leans into Kornacki’s role in upcoming election coverage and whether his offline approach changes the tone of the memes that follow. [Developing. This article will be updated.]
