CVPR week puts multimodal model updates in focus as enterprises set AI rollout plans

Google, OpenAI, Meta, and Anthropic will use the opening of CVPR this week to showcase multimodal model advances and tooling, according to conference schedules and company research teams that historically debut work at the venue. The updates come as CIOs lock budgets for second half pilots and production rollouts, and as new transparency and safety obligations for general purpose models begin to bite in Europe under the AI Act.
The timing matters because inference efficiency and provenance features presented at CVPR tend to turn into product updates within weeks, which can change cost curves and compliance postures before quarterly planning. Google used I O in May 2024 to extend Gemini 1.5 context windows, and OpenAI introduced GPT 4o on May 13, 2024 with real time vision and voice. Buyers expect similar cadence off the back of this week’s papers and toolkits.
Vendors will stress cost per token and throughput on current and next generation silicon. Omdia estimated Nvidia held more than 80 percent of the AI training accelerator market in 2023, and OEMs at Computex 2024 positioned Blackwell based systems for 2025 deliveries. Cloud operators signaled the spend behind that trend, with Microsoft reporting 2024 quarterly capital expenditures rising to the low teens in billions of dollars and saying AI infrastructure is the driver, while Alphabet told investors in April 2024 that capex would remain elevated through the year to fund AI data centers.
Enterprises will also scrutinize watermarking and content provenance. Adobe, Microsoft, Intel, and partners formed the C2PA to standardize provenance signals, and Adobe has tied Firefly indemnity to enterprise use in Creative Cloud. The EU AI Act, adopted in 2024, created duties for providers of general purpose AI models and set additional obligations for models designated as having systemic risk, which puts disclosure templates and incident reporting on the near term roadmap for model vendors that present at CVPR.
Model catalogs continue to fragment. Meta released Llama 3 on April 18, 2024 with a focus on permissive licensing, while Anthropic secured up to 4 billion dollars from Amazon and 2 billion dollars from Google in 2023 and 2024 to scale Claude for enterprise contracts on Bedrock and Vertex AI. OpenAI remains financially tied to Microsoft with more than 13 billion dollars committed since 2019, and its systems are embedded across Azure OpenAI Service, which affects where regulated customers can run new multimodal features once announced.
For the broader technology landscape, the week will signal how quickly multimodal research is converging on deployable features, how much of that is gated by Nvidia bound capacity, and which safety mechanisms move from papers into defaults. That will guide procurement across clouds, on premises GPU clusters, and SaaS, and will pressure vendors to translate CVPR results into production roadmaps that satisfy both finance teams and emerging regulatory checklists.
