Anthropic expands Claude Workflows across AWS Bedrock and its API, adds enterprise controls and regional routing

Enzo Reno ·

Anthropic said Tuesday it expanded Claude Workflows to general availability across its own API and Amazon’s Bedrock in North America and Europe, adding audit logs, concurrency controls, and regional routing for EU data residency. The company framed the update as an enterprise hardening of the agentic tooling it introduced in 2024, aiming to standardize repeatable multi step tasks like reconciliation, contract review, and tier one support.

The change matters for large buyers that want to move beyond chat interfaces toward governed automations. Anthropic said customers on enterprise plans can opt into a 99.9 percent uptime service level for Workflows, integrated with Bedrock’s IAM and CloudWatch, which reduces integration work for teams already on AWS.

What is new

Anthropic said Workflows now supports endpoint level audit logs with input and tool call traces, plus per workflow concurrency limits to prevent runaway tool invocation. It also added regional routing so EU traffic for Bedrock hosted deployments can be processed in Frankfurt or Dublin, aligning with common GDPR data locality requirements according to the company.

Pricing for Claude 3.5 Sonnet on Bedrock remains at 3 dollars per million input tokens and 15 dollars per million output tokens, according to AWS’s published Bedrock rates. Anthropic did not announce separate per step pricing for Workflows on Bedrock, and said billing continues to follow the underlying model token usage on AWS bills.

Why it matters for enterprises

Enterprises have tested agentic patterns for more than a year but slowed production rollouts over auditability and predictable cost. The added logs and concurrency caps target those concerns, particularly in regulated sectors like financial services and healthcare, where internal risk teams demand traceability and rate governance.

Claude 3.5 Sonnet has ranked near the top of public chat leaderboards run by LMSYS since mid 2024, and Anthropic has promoted it as a balance of quality and latency for tool use and code tasks. AWS reports that Bedrock adoption grew across 2024 with thousands of customers using managed models, and Synergy Research estimates AWS held roughly 31 percent of global cloud infrastructure spend in Q2 2024 compared with Microsoft Azure at about 25 percent and Google Cloud at 11 percent, which gives Anthropic a large enterprise channel.

Anthropic has raised more than 7 billion dollars from Amazon, Google, and others since 2023, and the UK Competition and Markets Authority has reviewed large tech investments in foundation model providers, including Amazon’s funding of Anthropic, for potential competition impacts. Workflows routed through Bedrock keep customers inside AWS security and procurement boundaries, which can reduce switching costs to competing model platforms from Microsoft, Google, and open source stacks running on Kubernetes or Ray.

The broader implication is that vendors are converging on managed orchestration layers that bundle models, tools, and policy controls, shifting buyer evaluation from model quality alone to total cost, governance, and where data is processed. That raises the bar for independent platforms to compete on control planes and integrations, not just raw model benchmarks.
